After the release of “Top Gun: Maverick” starring Tom Cruise in 2022, two things became clear. First, that Joseph Kosinski is exceptionally skilled at directing star-driven films that make enormous box office returns (over $1 billion, in this case). And second, that movie stars still very much exist.
Brad Pitt turned out to be one of them, and after F1 went into production in 2023, many fans of the actor and the director held their breath, waiting for what promised to be a truly great cinematic experience.

After the first trailer dropped, it was obvious we were all in for something spectacular — and you know what? We were right.

On its opening weekend alone, F1 roared into theaters at full speed, grossing over $100 million. Now the total is already approaching $200 million, which, given the film’s budget of over $200 million, could very well secure a final box office tally of $500–700 million or even more.

At the film’s premiere, Tom Cruise himself showed up to support his friends Pitt and Kosinski. Despite all the rumors about a feud between the two actors after shooting Interview with the Vampire, it turned out that they actually get along very well. Formula 1 feels like a mix of Moneyball and Days of Thunder (which also starred Cruise). Just the flashbacks featuring a young Pitt in the 1990s are worth seeing.

Hans Zimmer’s soundtrack isn’t quite as memorable as some of his other scores, but it does an excellent job of sustaining the film’s high-octane atmosphere.
Run — no, race — to see F1 in theaters, and you just might be among the first to appreciate this creation on the big screen.
