Looking at the night sky, you’re sometimes struck by the number of stars — small, bright, and incredibly beautiful, as if shining just for you. This feeling is difficult to capture, fully understand, or convey to others, although some talented individuals have managed to do so.
Christopher Nolan’s entire career has been built on stories that explore subtle feelings, emotions, human vices, and incredibly complex puzzles for the viewer, usually shown in a giant format.
The director seems to challenge us to compare the magnitude of the world, the planet, ambitions, and technology with the tiny points of our existence, such as love, awe, emotions, longing, or secrets from loved ones. In this balance, the world is experienced through the director’s eyes, or rather, through his camera. Memento tells the story of a man who, every five minutes, forgets who and where he is.
Insomnia tells the story of a detective whose life, due to sleep problems, has begun to resemble death, forcing him to consider something other than crime. Batman Begins finally gives audiences the opportunity to follow the adventures of perhaps the most controversial man on Earth.
Bruce isn’t afraid of death, yet he’s terrified of bats. He has a ton of money, yet he still chooses to escape to the mountains. He could have married any girl on the planet, though he still mourns his childhood friend. Nolan teaches us that in this world, everything is relative and debatable, but that makes it incredibly colorful, interesting, and diverse.
