Fans have been waiting for more than two years to see what the studio would deliver as a story about one of the most fascinating groups of characters in the DC comic universe — the Green Lanterns. Several years ago, James Gunn officially announced the series Lanterns, which follows John Stewart and Hal Jordan as they investigate a mysterious crime.
The synopsis wasn’t misleading: the trailer really does show glimpses of a grounded detective story in the spirit of 1990s crime films and shows like True Detective. The two main characters — a young man and an older veteran — are seen investigating a strange case in a small town.

Some fans were left puzzled. Instead of cosmic battles and fights with power rings, the trailer presents a much more serious and realistic story. However, things may not be so simple.

The creators of the series have stated that later episodes will feature more action and science fiction elements, closer to the comics. The first episodes, however, will focus more on the relationship between the central duo. The studio may also be a bit cautious after the failure of Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds back in 2011.

The series premieres this August and will consist of eight episodes. Don’t miss it!
