Just recently, the pre-award Governors Awards ceremony hosted by the Academy took place, where numerous honors were presented to some of Hollywood’s greatest figures. The legendary Tom Cruise attended the event — and finally received his first Oscar!
The actor was awarded for his “contributions to cinema” (as the Academy sometimes does), after which the star stepped onto the stage and the room erupted in applause. Tom was visibly moved, and in his speech he thanked production designer Wynn Thomas, who was sitting in the audience, and of course offered warm praise to Alejandro Iñárritu, with whom he is currently developing and shooting a new film.

Before taking the stage, Tom also shared an embrace with Steven Spielberg — another icon of the Hollywood dream factory.

Cruise had previously been nominated several times, for films such as Born on the Fourth of July, Magnolia, and others, but despite his long and impressive career, he had never received the coveted golden statuette until now. We are incredibly happy for the actor, who has walked a long and exciting road — and, as he himself joked, has “broken a few bones” along the way.

A mission is possible!
