For some reason, many people overlook the fact that while cinema underwent major changes in the 1990s, it was truly in the 2000s that it gained its unforgettable character. This was a time when the creative industries were at their peak — both in popularity and in possibility.
Advancements in CGI meant actors no longer had to spend five hours in makeup, nor did filmmakers have to scout obscure locations and rebuild them over months — the most complex scenes could simply be created digitally.

It was during this transformative period, in 2000, that filming began on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, directed by Chris Columbus. While Warner Bros. wasn’t entirely confident in the film’s success, they still invested a solid $125 million and brought in a number of well-known actors, including Maggie Smith and Richard Harris. As it turned out, the film shattered expectations.

Based on J.K. Rowling’s 1995 novel, the story of the boy who lived became an instant hit, grossing over $1 billion worldwide and becoming the second highest-grossing film in Hollywood history at the time.

A sequel was inevitable — and with seven books to adapt, the creative team had plenty of room to expand. The film received positive reviews from critics and, even 24 years later, it remains just as fresh, engaging, and most importantly — heartfelt. It reminds us, ordinary Muggles, that magic isn’t always found in the world around us, but often begins with the love we carry inside.

It’s perfect time to rewatch the franchise!
