It has happened. The world has finally seen its beloved alien from another galaxy — Kal-El in the flesh — on the big screen. Or, as you know him, Superman.
This is the character who changed the world of comic books — and arguably our lives — forever, since his debut in 1938 on the pages created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. DC had placed high hopes on James Gunn, and apparently for good reason: the first reactions to the film are overwhelmingly positive.
In its opening weekend, the movie grossed over $200 million, instantly proving its profitability. But beyond the box office, critics and audiences alike have praised the film, comparing it to Iron Man and calling it a brilliant beginning for the new DC cinematic universe.
Many fans say that Lex Luthor resembles Elon Musk, and the overall aesthetic of a “high-budget B-movie” has resonated with longtime fans of the studio and the character.
Rush to the cinemas to see Superman — perhaps the world isn’t lost after all. Just as Superman has been reborn, so too may hope for superhero cinema rise again.
