In 2002, director Sam Mendes — already well-known in Hollywood for his Oscar-winning American Beauty — released Road to Perdition, starring Tom Hanks in the lead role.
Of course, alongside Hanks, the film featured many other well-known actors such as Jude Law, Stanley Tucci, Daniel Craig, and a young Tyler Hoechlin. Paul Newman even received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance.
The film tells the story of Michael Sullivan and his family in a small American town in the 1920s, when, suddenly and mysteriously, members of the main character’s family are murdered — with only one of the children managing to escape by a miracle.
The wide-eyed Tyler Hoechlin played the young boy on screen, gaining fame after the film’s release. The rest of the cast, including Daniel Craig, Stanley Tucci, and Jennifer Jason Leigh, also added a brilliant work to their filmographies.
Even more than 20 years later, Road to Perdition remains visually stunning and, most importantly, captivating. Beyond its beautiful cinematography, the film explores powerful themes of family, kindness, and love — reminding us that each of us has our own path in this world. See for yourself!
